Georges Duboeuf 2011 Beaujolais Crus Preview

A few times each year I have the opportunity to attend and photograph wine events and meet some legendary wine makers, and this past June Georges Duboeuf and his son and co-proprietor Franck with their importer Peter Deutsch hosted a media/trade preview of the 2011 Beaujolais Crus at db Bistro Moderne in NYC.

As much as getting to try some truly fantastic wines, I was really looking forward to going to a top shelf NYC restaurant—db Bistro Moderne, owned by the renowned Daniel Boulud, with the food prepared by executive chef Laurent Kalkotour. I had the chance to sneak into the kitchen for a few shots as he and his staff plated the 4 course meal.

Commencement time

Next to weddings, a college commencement is the most enjoyable event I get to photograph. I still vividly remember the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction, and how proud my parents were at my own college graduation. Next week I’ll be shooting my third commencement for MCLA, which is also my alma mater, and I wanted to share a few of the images from the past two years that I really liked and could have easily added 50 more, but will leave room for the class of 2012!

It’s just about the flowers

I have been wanting to do a post about flowers for a while. When I shoot weddings the main focus is on the couple of course, but I always have one eye on the flowers, and just love the variety and seasonal arrangements that are even better than the next. If I use them as props for ring shots or just backgrounds for albums, it really doesn’t matter, they just look incredible and I just LOVE to photograph them. These are just a few of my favorites from recent weddings and I can’t wait to see what this next season brings!

Derrick Jackson speaking at exhibit

I was privileged to meet Boston Globe Op-Ed columnist Derrick Jackson last night while shooting his photography exhibit at MCLA (http://www.MCLA.edu). Proceeds from the event benefited mulicultural programs and scholarships. He claims photography is a hobby, but I would pit his photography against any professional photographer out there. I was truly inspired to pursue more wildlife photography after viewing his work. His press credentials with the Globe allows access to political and sporting events that give him some enviable angles at events and his natural eye and talent are clear in his work. His Obama Inaugural and campaign photos are extraordinary.
